My Pact with the Goblin Queen

a short story by Zsolt Kerekes published May 2004)

This is a horror story based in modern day Brighton. But this is not a tale about the bright city lights or the Sussex sea shore. The story takes place in the early hours of Sunday morning in the foggy lane winding up from the London Road past the Withdean stadium. Unlike the other stories on goblinsearch.com, this one is autobiographical. In fact the author claimed in a radio interview that nearly every word was true.

begin the story
Dear Reader,

PenelopesSecrets.com is the web serialisation of a science fiction meets sword & sandal novel. Currently the web site includes 78,000 words which is equivalent to about 242 pages in a paperback. So there's more than enough to get your teeth into. The projected length, when it's finished will be about 3 times as long.

Tolkien said that it took him about 13 years to write the Lord of the Rings, and when I first came across that fact on rereading his trilogy in the 1960's my initial reaction was:- he's a slow writer.

I don't claim to be in Tolkien's league when it comes to story telling, but I do seem to be writing at the same speed... My excuse, unlike Tolkien, who had a life, is that running a dot-com business doesn't leave you much time for anything else. The good news (if you think it's good for this book to get finished) is that I've written as much in the last year since putting the draft on this web site, as I did in the previous five years. So I'm speeding up, partly due the embarrassment that it's taking so long. So, thanks for your patience.

Yours sincerely
Zsolt Kerekes
